The (OS1) Users Symposium is the first multi-organization best practices benchmarking group in the cleaning
industry (according to the Carlysle University, Ottawa Canada benchmarking team that participated in the (OS1)
Symposium at the University of Massachusetts).
The first meeting of the (OS1) Users Group was a symposium sponsored by The Boeing Company and held in the largest
building in the world (according to the Guinness Book of World Records), the Everett, Washington airplane factory
that utilizes (OS1) as its cleaning program.
At the Boeing symposium the (OS1) Users voted to make the symposium an annual event. The University of Texas
at Austin volunteered to sponsor the second symposium. Since the first Boeing event, the symposium has been
sponsored by the University of Texas (2003), the University of Massachusetts (2004), and GMI Services, Inc.
(2005). In 2006 the symposium was held at the Homestead in Midway, Utah.
The symposium program consists of presentations by a wide variety of (OS1) users presenting benchmarking
best practices data and reports. Special speakers with relevance to the (OS1) system are also invited to
participate. Past Symposium speakers include: Dr. Michael Berry, Jeff Campbell, PH.D., BYU, Joe Jimenez,
Washington State Ecology Building Reauthorizing Project, Carey Mitchell, Technical Services, Shaw Carpet,
Dale Peery, Technical Services, Lees Carpet and Arthur Weissman, Green Seal.
